Jog Falls

Jog Falls is formed by the Sharavathi River dropping into a deep gorge, with four named cascades commonly identified as Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. The experience depends on water flow, visibility and the available viewing areas. Plan around authorised viewpoints rather than assuming that a descent towards the base will be possible.

Discover Jog Falls

The main viewing area and the British Bungalow side offer different perspectives across the gorge. Moving between them is a separate journey, not a short walk across the falls.

Places to explore

  • Jog Falls main viewpoint

The principal viewing area offers a broad perspective on the cascade group, making it the natural starting point for most waterfall visits.

  • British Bungalow viewpoint

The viewpoint across the gorge provides a different angle on the falls and surrounding forested landscape, requiring a separate approach.

  • Sharavathi gorge

The river-cut setting is central to the scale of the falls, worth observing alongside the changing patterns of the individual cascades.

Suggested sightseeing plan

Use this as a starting point. Adjust the sequence to your interests, access arrangements and local conditions.

  1. Begin at the main authorised viewing area and allow time for visibility to change before deciding whether another viewpoint is worthwhile.
  2. Continue to the British Bungalow side only if access and weather suit the group, then leave room for the return road journey.

Planning your visit

  • Check on-site restrictions before considering any downward path; a published description of steps does not establish current access.
  • Stay behind barriers and protect cameras from spray, particularly when rain and mist make surfaces slippery or reduce visibility.
