Alibaug

Alibaug offers a Konkan coastal visit with a broad beach and a strong maritime heritage setting. Kolaba Fort stands off the shore and is closely associated with the town's identity. Nearby beach destinations extend the coastal experience, but they should be treated as separate places rather than one continuous walking route.

Discover Alibaug

The useful distinction is between enjoying the beach from land and making a fort excursion. Sea conditions affect the latter, so a flexible schedule is better than a fixed promise to enter the fort at a particular time. The town also works as a base for exploring selected parts of Raigad's coast.

Places to explore

  • Alibaug Beach

The broad, relatively flat shore is the main town beach and an easy place to understand the relationship between the settlement and sea.

  • Kolaba Fort

The offshore fort represents the region's naval history; access must be planned around the current local and tidal arrangements.

  • Mandwa Beach, nearby

A separate coastal stop north of Alibaug that can extend a beach-oriented visit when road and connection plans allow.

Suggested sightseeing plan

Use this as a starting point. Adjust the sequence to your interests, access arrangements and local conditions.

  1. Suggested sequence: begin with the Alibaug shoreline, then consider the fort only after confirming access.
  2. Choose one nearby beach for an extension rather than attempting a long chain of coastal stops before returning.

Planning your visit

  • Confirm the safe, authorised way to reach Kolaba on the day; do not assume the shore-to-fort approach is always available.
  • If arriving through a ferry connection, allow for the transfer between the landing point, town and your accommodation.
