Surajkund

Surajkund is a historic water structure in Faridabad district, Haryana, close to South Delhi. Its semicircular embankment and hill backdrop are the main reasons to pause here outside the crafts-fair season. A visit to the reservoir should be planned separately from attendance at the large cultural event associated with its name.

Discover Surajkund

The district account connects the reservoir with the Tomar ruler Suraj Pal and describes traces of a Sun Temple around the water structure. Siddha Kund forms another part of the wider setting. Focus on the layout and surviving features rather than expecting the reservoir always to be full.

Places to explore

  • Surajkund Reservoir

The artificial reservoir is distinguished by its amphitheatre-like, semicircular embankment, with the Aravalli landscape providing an important part of its setting.

  • Siddha Kund

This smaller named pool is included in the Surajkund complex described by the district authority, adding context to the historic water landscape.

Suggested sightseeing plan

Use this as a starting point. Adjust the sequence to your interests, access arrangements and local conditions.

  1. Suggested first stop: examine Surajkund’s embankment and overall form from the permitted approach, allowing time to read the landscape.
  2. Suggested follow-up: locate Siddha Kund with local guidance, then return through the accessible complex without entering restricted or unstable areas.

Planning your visit

  • Check local access to the reservoir and Siddha Kund before making either the sole purpose of a long journey.
  • If travelling for the crafts fair, verify that year’s dates, gates and arrangements directly rather than assuming the reservoir visit includes it.
