Khandala

Khandala shares the Sahyadri hill landscape with neighbouring Lonavala, but it is useful to plan it as a viewpoint-focused visit rather than a list of every attraction in the region. Duke's Nose is a recognised landmark, while the nearby Buddhist caves offer an alternative when heritage is the main interest.

Discover Khandala

The shape of the terrain matters more than a straight-line distance. A viewpoint, a trekking approach and a cave entrance may require very different levels of effort. Select the experience that suits your group, and keep the larger Lonavala–Khandala circuit flexible when mist obscures the valleys.

Places to explore

  • Duke's Nose (Nagphani)

This prominent rocky landmark near Khandala is known for its dramatic profile; specialist adventure activities require separate competent arrangements.

  • Bhaja Caves, nearby

The Buddhist rock-cut caves provide a heritage excursion in the broader Lonavala–Khandala region rather than a stop on a short town walk.

  • Lonavala hill landscape

The neighbouring hill station provides additional scenic and town-based options if you want to extend the regional visit.

Suggested sightseeing plan

Use this as a starting point. Adjust the sequence to your interests, access arrangements and local conditions.

  1. Suggested sequence: begin with the accessible viewpoint experience that suits the group and the day's visibility.
  2. Add Bhaja as a deliberate heritage excursion, or remain around Khandala for a shorter landscape-focused outing.

Planning your visit

  • Distinguish a roadside view of the hills from an organised trek; the latter needs route knowledge and suitable conditions.
  • Allow additional road time between neighbouring attractions, particularly if the plan includes both a cave group and a hill viewpoint.
